Measurement of Length and Time

The distance between two points in space is called the length. By which we refer usually to a straight line. A one foot ruler or a metre rule is then used.

The unit used in length is the metre. Centimetres, millimetres and kilometres are also used.

Volume is measured in metre cubed (m3) or centimetre cubed (cm3).

The volume of a liquid like water is best measured using a measuring cylinder.

The volume of a regularly shaped solid object is best calculated if the height, width and depth are known.

The volume of an irregularly shaped object like a stone is measured by finding out the volume of liquid it displaces.

Time is measured in seconds, hours, days, months and years.

A stop watch is appropriate for laboratory experiments
